9. Planet Of The Apes

Planet Of The Apes:

Planet Of The Apes was a very interesting score to create. I made a lot of samples from assorted ethnic percussion, including some great large drums that I had recently brought back from India. As I was composing, I really got into those sounds, so I kept them all in the score. I’m used to doing my own synth and percussion performances in my scores, and it’s something I really enjoy, however this time my samples dominated rather than supported the overall sound. This was pretty new for me.

There are a few extra tracks from the soundtrack, along with the Paul Oakenfold remix. The most interesting part for me is the synth and percussion-only tracks we included at the end.  On these you can hear all the stuff I was messing around with myself. My personal favorite track on this CD is “Main Title (synth-perc only). And if you listen to “Camp Raid (percussion only),” you also might note that: (1) towards the latter part you’ll hear some strong influence by Philip Glass; and (2) I was having a pretty damn good time.
