A magical celebration of one of cinema’s most inventive duos. Tim Burton’s films conjure up captivating worlds, and the incredible musical imagination of Danny Elfman brings those stories to life. Outrageously tuneful, deliciously dark or just plain fantastical, there’s no film composer quite like him. Tonight, the Orchestra celebrate music and storytelling, performing works from Beetlejuice, Batman, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Alice in Wonderland, Edward Scissorhands and more, all enhanced by visuals of original sketches, drawings and storyboards on the big screen.

The Youth Orchestra will also perform the world premiere of a brand-new version of Danny Elfman's Wunderkammer. In the first half, the talented Youth Academy Orchestra perform Dvořák's New World Symphony, arranged especially for them by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s Tim Jackson.

Danny Elfman is a legend of movie music, the man whose scores for Batman and Edward Scissorhands fused rock ‘n’ roll with orchestral technicolour to dazzling effect. His Percussion Concerto is a gripping way to get to know Colin Currie – as one critic put it, “surely the world’s finest and most daring percussionist”. And conductor JoAnn Falletta – an American in Liverpool – delivers a side-order of high-kicking tunes and fascinating rhythms, courtesy of Aaron Copland and George Gershwin.
Post-concert Question Time – starts 15 minutes after the concert ends (in the Music Room) with JoAnn Falletta and Colin Currie.
